Hi, I’m Bex

My storytelling career began in journalism - I spent over a decade working in media, from reporter all the way up to editor. That background shapes everything I do now.

After having my two boys, I decided to take the leap into self-employment and have worked with local authorities, universities, non-profits and small businesses to support them and become their comms partner to tell compelling stories in the press.

I’m Bex Bastable - a journalist and communications strategist specialising in storytelling with purpose.

My experience

11+ years in local and regional journalism

  • Former newspaper editor, responsible for editorial strategy, commissioning and audience trust

  • Former commercial editor, developing ethical partnerships and sponsored content

  • Now a freelance journalist and consultant, working with organisations that care about impact, place and credibility.

I’ve written, edited and advised on stories covering communities, sustainability, the green transition and social impact — always with a focus on clarity, honesty and human relevance.

My clients’ stories have appeared in media including BBC News, Positive News Magazine, The Times, The Argus, The News Portsmouth, Sussex World, BBC Radio Sussex, V2 Radio and more.
